Florida has become the third state to reject federal stimulus funds to help create a high-speed rail system.<\/p>\n

Florida Gov. Rick Scott Feb. 16 joined Republican governors in Wisconsin and Ohio in saying “no” to the federal funds — all saying state finances are so dire that the states could not afford their share of the money or future subsidies for the new rail passenger service.<\/p>\n

At least in the shortrun, this puts an end to efforts to create high-speed rail between Tampa and Orlando.<\/p>\n

Scott provided three reasons for rejecting the federal funds:<\/p>\n
