SMART Local 5 is currently looking for motivated workers of all skill levels to fill positions performing sheet metal work in multiple areas of Eastern Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Northern Georgia and the entire state of North Carolina.

SMART Local 5 Wages and Benefits
SMART Local 5 sets the area standards in wages and benefits in each of our 3 contract areas throughout East Tennessee and North Carolina. Our members receive an hourly wage with additional benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401K, and pension all provided at no extra cost to you.
Our Benefits don’t come off your hourly wage, they are in addition to what you make on the check!
Our Journeymen wages include $33.00/HR on the check with an additional $17.88/HR in benefits for a total wage package of $50.88/HR.
No matter what your skill level, we have a competitive wage package for you.
Our Journeymen wages include $32.19/HR on the check with an additional $13.10/HR in benefits for a total wage package of $45.29/HR.
No matter what your skill level, we have a competitive wage package for you.
Our Journeymen wages include $35.51/HR on the check with an additional $17.08 in benefits for a total wage package of $52.59/HR.

- Wolfspeed – This is a semiconductor plant located in Siler City N.C., project value is 5-7 Billion. Sheet Metal workers will need to pass a background check and drug test. Projected start is late July- August 2023 (shop and field positions)
Rate of Pay for Journeyman- $32.39 (Must have 5 plus years commercial experience)
Apprentice or Classified – Wage rate is based on experience.
Hours- 6 – 10-hour days
Overtime- paid at time and half. (Double time if worked on Sunday)
Per-diem – $80.00 per day worked.
Health Insurance – paid by the contractor. (This does not come out of hourly pay)
401K- $2.50 per hour paid by the contractor (This does not come out of hourly pay)
Pension plan- $6.73 per hour paid by the contractor (This does not come out of hourly pay)
- Toyota Battery Plant – This is an auto battery plant located in Liberty N.C., project value is 6 billion. Sheet Metal workers will need to pass a background check and drug test. OSHA 10 is required – Projected start is late July – August 2023.
Rate of Pay for Journeyman- $32.39 (Must have 5 plus years commercial experience) Apprentice or Classified – Wage rate is based on experience.
Hours- 6 – 10-hour days

Health Insurance – paid by the contractor. (This does not come out of hourly pay)

- VinFast – This is an electric car company plant located in Moncure N.C., Project value is 5-6 billion. Sheet Metal workers will need to pass a background check and drug test. Projected start is September 2023.
Rate of Pay for Journeyman- $32.39 (Must have 5 plus years commercial experience)
Apprentice or Classified – Wage rate is based on experience.
Hours- 6 – 10-hour days

Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Have a valid State issued ID
- Have dependable transportation
- High School Diploma or GED (For Apprenticeship Applicants Only)
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Background Check (project specific)
- Have the desire to learn and work well with others
- Use industry related tools and safety products
- Authorized to work in the United States
