Production Department

SMART members do more than building and construction work or work in transportation. Production sheet metal work constitutes a major segment of the sheet metal industries. SMART members are employed in manufacturing facilities of all sizes, from small family-owned businesses to large multi-national corporations. SMART Production Workers earned wages, benefits, and safe working conditions that are unparalleled in the industries we represent. Most every SMART Production collective bargaining agreement includes a grievance and arbitration dispute resolution process. SMART Production Members don’t just do the sheet metal fabrication, they do most products from start to finish. SMART production members responsibilities include:

  • Quality control, machine maintenance and tool & die makers
  • Programming, set up and operation of state of the art machinery and robotics
  • Fabrication of all types of sheet metal, plastics, fiberglass and other materials for used in a multitude of products
  • Manufacturing components used for assembly of various products
  • Manufacturing and assembly of complex products such as for industrial, commercial and residential air handling HVAC equipment, kitchen and restaurant
  • equipment, sinks, faucets, bathtubs, water heaters, stainless steel and fiberglass tanks, auto parts, trucking and aircraft components, signage and hundreds of other manufactured products.

The SMART Director of Production Workers oversees a staff of trained professionals from the manufacturing background who provide assistance to Local Unions in:

  • Collective bargaining negotiations
  • Coordinating bargaining with large corporations with multiple SMART locations
  • Grievance and arbitration handling
  • Stewards training
  • Internal organizing training
