Communications and Research Department
Union activists and leaders need accurate information: supporting organizing, collective bargaining efforts and informing union members about developments that affect their rights and well being at the workplace and in their communities. The Communication Department also assists members and union leaders in their efforts to speak out on behalf of workers. From websites and newsletters to other publications, such as The Members’ Journal, this department uses a variety of methods, materials and technologies to disseminate the Union’s messages clearly and effectively to media sources, trade publications, the general public and other interested organizations. It is also on the cutting edge of new technologies, with a multi-faceted website and a members-only section where users subscribe to the SMART Action Alerts e-mail program. The Research Department covers strategic campaigns, marketing, organizing, bargaining and workforce analysis. Our goal is to ensure that SMART members speak with solidarity on the issues that matter to them.
